popcorn and hands

Here are a few highlights from 2-D art's last few projects.

wire sculptures

Art Exploration spent about a week creating these wire sculptures! I think they are fun and really love how the students choose to display them. Very creative.

Topeka Trip

What a day! Students started off this chilly morning with a good hike and some time to draw in nature. We went to ceder crest where the Governor lives and Topekans hike, run, and bike!

Next we headed to the Mulvane Art Museum at Washburn. This gave us a chance to visit Justin Marable's art show, see some wild instruments/sculptures by Ken Butler, and make some art down in the art lab. The art lab is free and open to the public! It is great fun.

After that we were HUNGRY! We had lunch at the Millinum Cafe at the Library. We also had a really great tour of the gallery. Our last stop was the Great Mural Wall behind the expo center on Western. By the time we got home the students were worn out...me too actually!

BIG principals

Progress is SLOW on the HUGE 9 foot drawings... but it will be well worth it when these hang in the hall (hopefully in 2 more weeks!). Each student has drawn several squares. They are coming together to make huge, and very realistic portraits of Mr. Davis and Mr. Holloman. This project is inspired by chuck close. We watched a video about his art and life before starting the project.
